Va. State Sen. Siobhan Dunnavant voted repeatedly against Medicaid expansion for an estimated 6,000 of her constituents and derided politicians supporting the expansion of the health care program  as “crybaby politicians.”

According to a video entitled “Deliver” posted on May 11, 2015 on her Youtube page, Dunnavant lambasted supporters of Medicaid expansion in Virginia, stating “Crybaby politicians, whining to expand Medicaid and Obamacare…Siobhan’s against expanding Medicaid.”

Dunnavant has a long record of opposing Medicaid expansion in Virginia. In May 2018, Dunavant voted against House Bills 5001 and 5002, two separate budget bills that, according to the Gazette-Virginian, increased healthcare access for up to 400,000 low-income Virginians.

Just a month before, Dunnavant signaled her concrete opposition to Medicaid  expansion, calling it an “inappropriate use of funds.”

Dunnavant, a lifelong Republican, has also called for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

In a post on Dunnavant’s Facebook page dated March 23, 2015, Dunnavant stated “Obamacare must be repealed, and we must give states more flexibility to create their own solutions. Expanding a broken Medicaid system is not the answer.”

In November, Dunnavant is running for re-election to represent Virginia’s 12th Senate District.
